Hakuba Cortina

Cortina – all-inclusive Elämysmatkat style

The small ski resort of Cortina is a part of the greater Hakuba area. Out of the resorts in the area Cortina is the most popular amongst Nordic guests especially due to the excellent forest off-piste. As the biggest resort in the Hakuba region, Cortina has also permitted skiing everywhere outside the slopes, making it very popular with the fat-ski and snowboarding guests. A proficient and very active ski patrol group operates in Cortina, monitoring the snow safety in the off-piste. So we are in good hands!

The large yet cosy Hotel Green Plaza is a good quality establishment which covers all the services you might want during your ski trip: tables overflowing with buffet food for breakfast and dinner, excellent onsen section freely accessible to clients, equipment storage, good, spacious rooms in Japanese standards, conveniently located right at the base of the slopes, friendly personnel, and even a Japanese game room for entertainment. Cortina and the Green Plaza are a genuine all-inclusive Elämysmatkat style combo.

The resort of Cortina only has seven lifts and ten slopes, but the off-piste terrain accessible from the lifts is really awesome and varied. Straight from the lifts you can ride great powder lines right through the trees and end up at the lower lift station. And if that wasn’t good enough, a great number of additional possibilities open up through the three backcountry access gates. When heading into the backcountry, please note that the use of a proficient guide is naturally more than recommended.

Cortina is located roughly half an hour bus or taxi ride outside the centre of Hakuba, where plenty of restaurants and services are located. A majority of Elämysmatkat clients are also accommodated in the centre of Hakuba. Traditionally speaking, Finnish travellers spend most of their time between Cortina and the centre of Hakuba, especially on mornings following a snowfall. The Cortina all-inclusive option saves plenty of time in the mornings, since you are practically immediately on-piste as you step out of the hotel. You can also get a free shuttle bus from Cortina to other resorts in the Hakuba area, and in the evenings you can take a taxi to enjoy the night life in Hakuba centre.

Independent travel, or a package from Elämysmatkat? At Elämysmatkat we work hard every day to ensure as many of our winter sports enthusiasts as possible will choose the latter option. We are convinced that on a Elämysmatkat trip, you get more out of Japan and an overall more cost-effective vacation. Below are a few points for anyone pondering this question.

1) Experience and proficiency

Elämysmatkat is the most experienced organizer of skiing trips to Japan in the Nordic countries. Winter 2014 will mark our eighth season in Japan, and with every year that passes, our contacts and knowledge of the resort grow. Travelling and for instance selecting accommodation in Japan is harder than in the Alps; these extra adjustments cost the unaccustomed traveller plenty of time and money, both before the trip, and on-site. A trip can accumulate surprising excess charges if for example the transport arrangements have not been planned right. The resorts, flights, hotels, transport companies, restaurants and local guides we have selected are carefully chosen and proven to be the best.

2) Best professionals in Finland and Japan at your service

Elämysmatkat Finnish guides operating in Japan, and the local guides we work with, are the best professionals of their trade – and great characters. Kossu Koskinen, in charge at Hakuba, is for example an internationally certified ski-instructor, who has an excellent local knowledge of Hakuba, both on and off skis. A guide will help you with the arrangements so that you can concentrate on enjoying the trip. It is particularly important in Japan to know the official and unofficial rules regarding off-piste skiing – where you can ski and where you cannot. Our guides always have the latest, up-to-date information.

In turn, the Elämysmatkat office sees to it that all travel arrangements have been made carefully, taking into account all of the travellers’ needs. Old-fashioned customer service is still valued at Elämysmatkat.

3) Price

As the number of our clients increase and awareness of us in Japan grows, we have year-in year-out negotiated better deals with our partners. That is why we are able to offer an excellent price-quality relationship in all of our Japan tours. The package is guaranteed to be more economical than the cost of independent travel – even if you purchase discounted flight tickets. And with the services provided by Elämysmatkat you simply get more for your money When planning independent travel, you can’t always factor in all of your trip’s expenses. For example, the 120 EUR ski surcharge, expensive land transport in Japan, or airport hotel for the last night are often overlooked in the calculations. At Elämysmatkat all of this is naturally included in the tour price.
